Where Have All the Threads Gone? (Or: What Happens When Real Life Interrupts the Spell)

WhichCraft? Studio embroidery workspace, thread rack, and machine — the studio quietly returning after a break.
A quiet return to the thread rack — soft light, dark thread, and the studio waking back up.

Let’s address the elephant in the room—or more accurately, the empty seat at the digital table. If you’ve noticed things getting a little quiet around WhichCraft? Studio over the last couple of weeks, you haven't imagined it. The blog posts paused, the social media feeds went uncharacteristically still, and the internet continued spinning without my two cents.

What happened? Did the bobbin gnomes finally stage a full-scale mutiny? Did the fifth-wheel studio roll away down the Florida highway?

Not quite. I simply got ambushed by real life.

If we’re being completely honest, the last couple of weeks have been a glorious, chaotic tangle of all the things. First, there were the birthday blues—that lovely little annual existential check-in where you stare into the mirror and wonder how time moves so fast while your coffee is still brewing. Then came a deep dive into loc life maintenance (tending to my locs is a whole sacred ritual that demands time, patience, and sitting still for hours). Add in a genuinely phenomenal book that completely hijacked my attention, general life admin, and the subtle art of deciding that the world could, in fact, survive a few days without another digital opinion from me.

As creators, there’s this unspoken pressure that we always have to be on. That if you aren’t posting, producing, or pushing out content every single day, you’ve somehow fallen off the map. We feel this bizarre urge to write formal apology letters when we step away to breathe, as if taking care of ourselves or getting lost in a good book is a crime against the algorithm.

I used to think missing in action meant falling behind. Now, I’m starting to think it’s just part of the craft.

You cannot pour yourself into high-end, intentional, moody design if your own well is completely dry. Sometimes, stepping away from the keyboard is the only way to remember what you actually want to say when you get back. You have to live a little, read a good book, deal with your hair, let the birthday blues pass like a summer thunderstorm, and remember that there is a physical world happening outside the screen.

So, consider this a quick check-in from the shadows. The studio is still here. The embroidery machine is warmed up and waiting. The thread rack is still a moody dream of dark plums, charcoal, and forest greens.

Thank you for holding space while I took a minute to live my life.

To celebrate the beautiful chaos of living—and as a quiet thank you for your patience during my radio silence—I’ve tucked a little welcome-back gift into the shop. Use the code LifeInterrupted at checkout to get 50% off any one item of your choice.

Now, who wants to talk about some new designs?

Stay spooky, stay sophisticated, and go read a good book.
