How to Download and Load a Digital Embroidery Design onto Your Machine

You have found the design. It is in your cart. Here is what happens next, step by step, so nothing goes bump in the night.

Step 1: Find your download

After you check out, keep an eye on your inbox — we'll email your download link, as long as you've accepted emails from us at checkout. You can also find every design you've bought anytime: click your name in the top corner of the site, choose "My Orders," and that page takes you straight to your orders, where you can download your files directly.

Step 2: Unzip the folder

Your files arrive in a ZIP folder. Open it on your computer to see the files inside. Most computers can do this by double-clicking the folder.

Step 3: Choose the right format

Pick the file type your machine reads. See our post "Which Embroidery File Format Does Your Machine Read?" if you are unsure.

Step 4: Move the file to your machine

Copy the file to a USB drive, or send it to your machine using its own software. Your manual will explain which your machine prefers.

Step 5: Load and preview

Select the design on your machine’s screen. Check that the size fits your hoop.

Step 6: Hoop, stabilize, and stitch

Hoop your fabric with a suitable stabilizer. Use the color sheet from your download to choose your threads. Stitch a small test if the fabric is precious.
